My summer as an intern at JAC was filled with new experiences, lessons, and more growth than I ever expected when I first walked through the door. I had the opportunity to work on articles about candidates, contribute to the voter guide, and do many other things that gave me a closer look at the work that informs and engages people. It was exciting to see how much thought, research, and care go into making information accessible and meaningful to the community. 

One of the biggest things I took away from my time at JAC was how rewarding it can be to use your voice and take a stand for what you believe in. Before this summer, I knew that being involved and speaking up was important, but I don't think I fully understood how meaningful it could be to contribute to something bigger than myself. Working at JAC made me think more about the role each of us can play in the real world around us, especially at a time when it can sometimes feel easier to stay quiet. 

My favorite part of this internship, though, was the people. I was surrounded by inspiring, hardworking women who motivated me every day to keep learning, growing, and working hard. I really admired the dedication they brought to their work, and I hope to carry that same energy with me moving forward.

Of course, not everything I learned this summer was serious; one of my unexpected highlights was learning to play mahjong with the JAC women. It was a fun reminder that some of the best parts of an experience come from the little moments and connections made along the way. I will always cherish the lunchtime shared in the conference room with Hollis, Allison, Talia, and Marcia talking about politics, life, and weekend plans. I was also honored to meet JAC’s board members whose commitment and passion were incredibly inspiring. 

When I think back on this summer, I will always remember the people I met who welcomed me into the JAC family and the world of politics. I know that it will be up to me to carry the lessons and experience forward on my own political journey. What an incredible way to spend a summer.
