Rep. Suzanne Bonamici was born in Detroit, Michigan, and worked her way through college at Lane Community College before earning both a bachelor’s degree and law degree from the University of Oregon. She began her career in consumer protection law at the Federal Trade Commission and later worked in private practice before entering public service. She was elected to the Oregon House in 2006, appointed to the Oregon State Senate in 2008, and elected to Congress in a 2012 special election, where she has served since.
