Rep. Ritchie Torres is a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives representing New York's 15th Congressional District. Born and raised in the Bronx, Torres grew up in public housing and was raised by a single mother. After attending New York University, he entered public service as a community organizer and later became the youngest elected official in New York City when he won a seat on the City Council in 2013. In 2020, he was elected to Congress, becoming the first openly gay Afro-Latino member of Congress and one of the first openly gay Black men elected to the House. Since taking office, he has focused on housing, economic development, financial services, public safety, and civil rights
