Melissa Bean is a Democratic politician from Illinois who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2005 to 2011, representing Illinois’s 8th Congressional District in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. She gained national attention in 2004 by defeating a long-serving Republican incumbent in a competitive district. During her time in Congress, she aligned with moderate Democratic factions and focused on financial services, economic policy, and consumer protection. After leaving Congress in 2011 following a narrow election loss, she transitioned into executive roles in the private sector, including senior positions in financial services and nonprofit leadership. She is now running in 2026 to reclaim her former seat.
