Rep. Peltola was elected to Congress in 2022, defeating Sarah Palin in a special general election to fill the seat of the long-time incumbent. She is the first Alaska Native member of Congress and the first woman to represent Alaska in Congress. Prior to her election to Congress, Peltola served in the Alaska House of Representatives and served as a judge on the Orutsararmiut Native Council's tribal court.
