John Wright Hickenlooper is an American politician, geologist, and businessman. After earning a degree in geology, he worked in the energy sector before opening Colorado’s first brewpub, which helped revitalize downtown Denver’s Lower Downtown district. He later expanded into multiple business ventures before entering public service. He was elected Mayor of Denver in 2003, where he focused on transit expansion, early childhood education access, and sustainability initiatives. In 2010, he was elected Governor of Colorado, serving two terms and overseeing economic recovery efforts, expansion of healthcare coverage, and major climate and infrastructure initiatives. In 2020, he was elected to the U.S. Senate, where he continues to advocate for bipartisan policy solutions and economic development.
