Rep. Joe Neguse is a Democratic lawyer and politician representing Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District. The son of Eritrean immigrants, he grew up in Colorado and became active in civic life early, including founding New Era Colorado to encourage youth political participation. He later served as a student leader at the University of Colorado Boulder before attending law school there. Before Congress, he held senior roles in the Colorado state government, including leading the state’s consumer protection agency. He was elected to Congress in 2018 and quickly rose into Democratic leadership due to his legislative effectiveness and ability to build bipartisan coalitions. In 2024, he was elected Assistant Democratic Leader, one of the top leadership positions in the House Democratic Caucus.
