WHAT'S ON OUR MIND

Four Years is Too Long

June 26th, 2026

This week marked four long years since the devastating Dobbs decision. We knew this decision was coming, but nothing could have prepared us for the shock, fear, and immediate consequences that followed. In one ruling, nearly fifty years of constitutional protection for women’s reproductive freedom disappeared. Millions of women woke up in a country where the rights they had always counted on were suddenly gone.

Since then, states have been engaged in a race to the bottom, competing to see who can pass the cruelest, most dangerous, and most extreme anti-choice legislation, thereby creating a patchwork of laws that leaves millions of Americans with vastly unequal access to reproductive health care.

Today, women facing complicated pregnancies are being denied lifesaving medical care. Doctors are forced to wait until patients are at the brink of a medical crisis before intervening. Women have even been turned away from emergency rooms, forced to travel hundreds of miles for care, or forced to carry pregnancies under circumstances no politician should ever control. The consequences of Dobbs are happening every single day, and women and families across this country are paying the price.

The only way we can counter the Dobbs decision is to change Congress.

Shortly after JAC was founded, we adopted reproductive freedom as one of our core principles. A candidate must be pro-choice to earn JAC’s endorsement and support. We have always believed that women deserve the freedom to make their own healthcare decisions — not politicians, not judges, and certainly not extremists pushing their ideology into our most personal decisions.

Since Dobbs, we are proud to say JAC has helped elect dozens and dozens of pro-choice candidates who refuse to back down in this fight. They have introduced legislation to restore abortion protections nationwide, safeguard access to contraception, and protect women’s healthcare. But again and again, extremist leadership in Congress has blocked progress.

Our candidates are ready with the legislation. They have the commitment. They are prepared to restore reproductive freedom for women across America. But we need to get them elected to Congress. Elections have consequences.

In Their Own Words: Some of Our Pro-Choice Candidates

Rep. Laura Gillen (NY-4)

"I’ll continue to fight tooth and nail to defend women’s freedom to make their own personal health care decisions.”

Rep. Marcy Kaptur (OH-9)

“A woman’s health decisions must be between a woman and her doctor, not out-of-touch lawmakers.”

Rep. Tom Suozzi (NY-3)

“I will always fight to protect the rights of women.”

Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-3)

“I won’t stop fighting to restore this fundamental right and defend reproductive freedom for all.”

Rep. Janelle Bynum (OR-5)

"The right to choose if and when to start a family should be between a woman and her doctor – not politicians.”

Rep. Don Davis (NC-1)

“Now more than ever, we must protect fundamental freedoms like abortion and ensure all families have the option to decide when and how to start a family."
