JAC Statement on the Boulder, CO Shooting

JAC STATEMENT ON THE COLORADO SHOOTING

JAC is beyond saddened and angered by the tragic mass shooting yesterday in Colorado. Our hearts break for the victims' families and the entire Boulder, CO community.

The Colorado shooting is the 2nd mass shooting in the past seven days in America. Thoughts and prayers won’t stop future lives from being lost to gun violence. We need immediate action now. Our country cannot keep going on like this. This cannot be our normal way of life. As we begin to reopen our society post-COVID, sadly we can anticipate more gun violence.

As President Joe Bide said today “(We) don’t need to wait another minute, let alone an hour to take common-sense steps that will save the lives in the future."

The House recently passed two critical gun violence prevention bills: HR 8 for universal background checks and HR 1446 to close the Charleston loophole that circumvents background checks. These bills now reside in the Senate, where a hearing is being held today on the gun violence epidemic.

Call your Senators at 202-224-3121. Tell them to vote YES on HR 8 and HR 1446.

This is not about politics. This is about saving lives. It is up to our Senators to keep our communities safe and do the right thing. Our country needs the Senate to pass common-sense gun laws.
