Joan Canel - Founding Member and beloved friend

It is with heavy hearts that we note the passing of our beloved Joan Canel, of Highland Park, IL. As a founding member of JAC she was a tireless advocate, generous supporter and long-serving Treasurer.

As our first honoree at the JAC Power of Women Brunch, we had the opportunity to tell Joan how much we loved and appreciated her.  Her life serves as a shining example of what one person can do, and what many people can do together with strong determination and positive energy.

Joan was a truly caring person who will be remembered for her dedication and commitment to a wide range of causes.  We are honored that she chose JAC, becoming our longest-serving board member. Actively involved in current events throughout her life, she often sent emails on issues to us, and requested clarification and verification of online rumors and misinformation so she could set others straight on the truth. This in turn led to the development of the Myths & Facts section on our website.

Joan was not content to be the lone JAC activist in her family. She encouraged her husband and children to join her in the JAC effort to make the world a better place. Lynda, Scott, and Jay attended JAC conferences, held membership coffees and supported JAC candidates. Joan led by example and inspired others by her actions.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her remarkable family -- her husband Jay and her children Scott and Lynda, Sherri and Brad, Lee and Andria, and her grandchildren. Her memory will always be a blessing.

Funeral Services will be held
