WHAT'S ON OUR MIND
WHITE HOUSE OFFICE OF GVP NEEDS HARRIS AND CONGRESS
September 27, 2024
Lives have been saved because of bold action from the Biden/Harris administration to reduce gun violence. This week marked the first anniversary of Biden’s creation of the first-ever office of gun violence prevention, overseen by VP Kamala Harris.
Under her direction, the administration has improved and expanded background checks by closing the gun show loophole and implementing enhanced background checks for Americans under 21. The office has also worked with law enforcement and courts to keep guns out of the hands of abusive dating partners.
The Office is an invaluable resource for states and local communities. It provides states with the tools and guidance needed to implement red flag laws effectively. Additionally, the release of the Safer States Agenda has helped legislators pass commonsense gun safety laws tailored to their communities.
Harris will continue this fight and these efforts to end gun violence as President. She has pledged to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, ensuring that no American has to live in fear of gun violence.
In stark contrast, a Trump presidency would undo this progress. If elected, Trump will close the Office of Gun Violence Prevention, prioritizing gun manufacturers over the safety of the American people. With a GOP-led Congress, there will be no chance to pass any form of gun safety legislation, putting more lives at risk.
We need to elect Kamala Harris and a Congress that shares her commitment to ending gun violence. That is why it is vital to ensure that Rep. Yadira Caraveo (D-CO) is reelected. She only won her race by .7 points in 2022, making it one of the closest races in the country. As a pediatrician, Caraveo has witnessed firsthand the devastating impact gun violence has on children and their families.
When she served in her state’s legislature, Caraveo supported implementing extreme risk protection order laws. She continues to champion efforts in Congress to reduce gun violence, backing crucial legislation such as the Bipartisan Background Checks Act and an assault weapons ban.
This is a must-win race, and JAC is proud to support YADIRA CARAVEO. We hope you will too.
The safety of our communities depends on who we elect up and down on the ballot in November. We need Rep. Yadira Caraveo in Congress.
Elections matter.
