Today the nation marks the 19th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11th that killed nearly 3,000 people. In the aftermath, we pulled together as one nation united in grief and resolute to find those responsible.

 

The military engaged in a war of terror to find and capture Osama Bin Laden and his operatives responsible for the deadly attacks. Those American soldiers that gave their lives in that quest for justice were heroes.

 

 

On Monday, our nation will celebrate Labor Day. The holiday was created to honor the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. 

 

This year, in particular, our workers deserve special honor. To all those men and women that have kept our country running during COVID at great sacrifice to themselves and their families, this is our chance to say thank you.

 

The GOP convention this week featured speakers who represent the worst of this country. 

 

The Republican nominee from North Carolina, Madison Cawthorn, was featured at the convention. On a recent trip he visited Hitler's vacation home, which he said was on his "bucket list" of places to see. He later posted pictures of the visit and referring to the Nazi leader as the Fuhrer. The caption also said the place was where"Supreme Evil shared laughs and good times with his compatriots."

 

We just finished a historic week for the Democratic party. It was a convention unlike any other and one that we will certainly be remembered. Kamala Harris became the first women of color to be on a national ticket. The convention celebrated the diversity of our nation and highlighted the important work we need to do to restore our country.

 

Hillary Clinton summed up what this election can't be: "We can not have another should of, would of, could of election." 

 

As the nation celebrated and memorialized Rep. John Lewis' life this week, nearly every eulogy and commentary mentioned the Voting Rights Act. The House on Monday voted to rename H.R. 4, the Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2019, to the John Lewis Voting Right Act. No other American is as closely associated with the fight to protect voting rights than Lewis.
