One year after the insurrection at the Capitol we know that the attack on our democracy is not over.

Armed extremism is on the rise across the country, fueled by hate and the leaders of the far-right. The GOP continues to spread lies about the 2020 election. They are already planting dangerous seeds of doubt about the integrity of the 2022 election. Some of those that supported and participated in the violence of January 6th are now running for Congress. On Thursday, the GOP members in the Senate used a procedural move to block debate and obstruct voting on a bill that would enact voting protections into Federal law. The bill would make it harder for the GOP to purge voter rolls and prevent minorities from voting. It would also standardize voting access in all states.

The Senate’s inability to pass meaningful gun safety legislation is costing lives. Every day, over 100 people are shot and killed in America and hundreds more are injured. Despite the surge in gun violence, the NRA has doubled down on its extremism and dangerous rhetoric.

What a month. The most restrictive anti-abortion law in the nation went into effect in Texas on September 1st - after anti-Choice members of the Supreme Court refused to block it. The Court has instead scheduled arguments for another lawsuit from Mississippi asking for Roe v Wade to be completely overturned.
