Why Your Support

Joe Crowley is a staunch advocate for JAC’s agenda, especially vocal in his support for Israel and women’s issues. Crowley is a centrist Democrat with demonstrated leadership qualities. On Israel, Crowley believes that a peace agreement must be reached so that the people of the Middle East can raise their children in a safe and secure environment. He wants to ensure that enemies of Israel do not threaten Israel or acquire nuclear weapons. He is a strong advocate for annual military aid for Israel and has been a sponsor of many pro-Israel pieces of legislation.

As a member of the Ways and Means committee, Rep. Crowley works to provide affordable health coverage to all Americans, including mental health. His votes on children’s health insurance programs as well as Medicaid directly benefit the Jewish community and its agencies. Crowley received the 2008 Voice for Choice Award for his efforts to keep women healthy. He is a leading supporter of increased federal support for the Title X Family Planning Program and has co-sponsored legislation to increase grants to find a cure for breast cancer. Crowley is more than pro-choice, he is pro-woman and a fighter for women's rights worldwide. We need to help him remain in Congress to continue to uphold our values in a political environment that threatens them.

Background

The 7th district, including the Bronx and Queens, is a heavily immigrant community, forty percent of whom are Hispanic. The majority of Crowley's constituents are working class with a high school education. Sixty percent speak a language other than English in their homes. His district votes heavily Democratic.

About The Candidate

Joe Crowley has become a champion of women’s rights at home and around the globe. He fights for choice, health care, HIV/AIDS advocacy, eeucation and advancements for women in countries all over the world. In February 2010, National Journal magazine named Rep. Crowley “a rising star.” The New York Times noted that his peers consider him to be a “hard working representative” who is an impassioned advocate for his district. Believing it is crucial to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, Rep. Crowley authorized additional sanctions against Iran. He holds the Palestinians accountable for their actions and votes to ensure that money going to the Palestinian Authority is transparent and audited. Rep. Crowley has been a great friend to JAC and advocate for our issues.
